Rewrite Your Burn Book

So I’m just going to be real with y'all, I’ve had a couple of solid kicks to my ego in the past few months. We’ve all been there, right? You get into this whole pity party mindset, telling yourself that you’re going to be alone forever. Truthfully, it was getting out of hand. I was telling myself that I would become a crazy cat lady. I even (jokingly) asked one of my best friends to marry me and said we could adopt a baby together, to which she enthusiastically accepted! Unfortunately, you can’t click your heels together three times and start playing for the other team. Damn.
Nonetheless, my girlfriend came by the other night for a visit, and of course I am going down the woe is me road. For a second there, I honestly thought she was going to launch herself across the table and start shaking me after I described myself as the “short awkward library girl”. That’s pretty harsh eh? Could you ever imagine calling your friend that? I have been referring to myself this way for years!
Why is it so difficult to be nice to ourselves? It’s like we’ve all written giant burn books about ourselves.
What would happen if we saw ourselves through the eyes of those who love us?
Disclaimer: I cannot take credit for this idea. My mom’s best friend introduced me to this!
The next time you’re having a girls night with your friends ask everyone to share what they like most about each other in one physical feature, and one personality trait. For example, I was described as a “warrior princess” for my strength and resilience. I was also told that I have a great ass *face-palm*. Give it a try! We all need a reminder sometimes and this simple but effective exercise will do the trick! If you’re feeling really radical, compliment yourself! i.e. “Look at my awesome butt! Yas, get it girl!”
Self-love is tough, and is a constant work in progress, so let’s try to make it easier by lifting each other up. Compliment the people in your life! Let them know that they matter.
Sending you lots of love. Go forth and slay the day!
